Ll /opt/cinelerra and post the results here. If it doesn't work open terminal and type: Can someone give me more background on this command, Ive read the man pages, but I need more info. BUT, Ive d/l some tgz stuff, like xmms skins and Xawtv and I seem to remember that there are other ways to install. If it works then create a launcher so you don't have to open via terminal anymore. Ive also installed Swaret to keep my files up to date under Slackware. What do you make of it? (For some reason this reply has re formatted the font and spacings in the posting) When I installed Cinelerra CV from a ppa on a previous occasion I went to the search section and typed in Cinelerra and the programe was there but on this occasion it is not. password for name: (entered chmod +x no errors or messages about problems showed I thought it had worked. password for name: (entered my password and pressed had to make the file cinelerra executable chmod+x /opt/cinelerra/cinelerra (entered this then this sudo chown -R name /opt/cinelerra Then This sudo chown -R name /opt/cinelerra opt/cinelerra (myownuser is your user name, of course.) Next: I had to change the the ownership of /opt/cinelerra to my own user The second part I have failed to get to work. The first part I think in effect has been done. So then I referred to your second posting.

I do now have an /opt folder in the “File system” and this has one folder named Cinelerra, this folder has several other folders, the txz file and a load of other items I would expect like a manual and some PNG files etc. That's it.I have tried to do as you instructed and have failed!! Thus, as the README file says: Run `./cinelerra` from this directory. However, Cinelerra is distributed for Ubuntu as a precompiled binary in a compressed tar archive.

Generic instructions for installing software from compressed tar archives are often instructions for installing from source, as source code is commonly packaged this way.

Most archives for software kindly keep everything in a top-level folder, but this one doesn't! Therefore, I suggest creating a cinelerra folder, putting the archive in the folder (or downloading it to there in the first place, if you haven't already), and unpacking it there: mkdir cinelerra Run tar xf *archive*.txz, since tar will automatically figure out how an archive is compressed and decompress accordingly.Īssuming you downloaded this file (or that one), linked to from here and listed under "Ubuntu 14," there are a few points to keep in mind:
